Nurse AI Made Easy: The AI Playbook by David Spriggs, RN. Nine chapters and 122 pages of plain-English ChatGPT plays for your money, your meals, your career, your shift, your school, and the life you have outside the hospital.
of nurses already use AI in their personal lives. That's more than use it at work.
Almost all of them are typing one line and getting a generic answer back. This book is the difference between that and something you'd actually use.
Wolters Kluwer, Future Ready Healthcare Nursing Report, January 2026What's Inside
Nine chapters. Each one goes deep on a specific part of nurse life and shows you exactly what to type into ChatGPT to get something useful out.
What ChatGPT is, in plain English. Free versus paid, how to navigate it, how to organize your conversations, and the master conversation that learns your life. Starts at zero tech background.
Why one-line questions get generic answers. The three-part structure that fixes it: who you are, what you need, how you want it. Plus eight ready templates.
Budgeting on an income that changes every two weeks. Differentials, overtime, debt, savings goals around a shift schedule, and tax basics for side income.
Meal plans built for 12-hour shifts, not Instagram diets. Eating at 2am, wind-down snacks before day sleep, planning from a photo of your fridge, macros, and smarter drive-through calls.
Movement for someone already on their feet twelve hours. Shift-aware training, post-shift sleep and recovery, and what to do on a zero-energy day.
Knowing your market worth, resumes that get read, interview prep, specialty pivots, the certifications that actually pay, and how to build and deliver a salary negotiation.
The one chapter that comes to work with you. Brain sheets, quick clinical orientation, patient education, documentation language, SBAR prep, float survival, and the HIPAA rule over all of it.
Understand concepts faster, get quizzed on CCRN or CEN content, build a study schedule that survives your shifts, and an eight-step paper process where you still write every word.
Days off planned by real energy instead of a list. Vacations, home projects, the emails you avoid, and getting a hard shift out of your head before it follows you home.
Before You Buy
Never put patient information into ChatGPT. Not a name, not initials, not a room number, not an MRN, not a date plus a diagnosis. Consumer ChatGPT is not HIPAA compliant and it never has been. That rule is on page one and it repeats every time it needs to.
Nothing in here writes your assessment for you. No prompt generates a finding you did not observe. Your license, your eyes, your judgment. AI does not get to touch that.
Your employer's AI policy beats this book. Every time, no exceptions. If your hospital says no, the answer is no.
Most of this book is not about your shift at all. It's about the hours outside the hospital. Your money, your meals, your days off, your schooling, and the life that's still waiting when you finally clock out.
See It For Yourself
This is page 18, straight out of Chapter 2. Same question, two ways of asking it. That difference is what the whole book teaches.
One page of 122.

Isn't this stuff I could just Google?
You could Google "how to use ChatGPT." You'd get advice written for marketers and software people. Nothing in those articles knows what a three-in-a-row feels like, or that your paycheck is a different number every two weeks. That's the part I wrote.
Is this safe to use with my job?
Yes, because it never asks you to put patient information anywhere. Chapter 7 does come to work with you, since organizing your own shift is your business and not the patient's chart. The line the book holds: your work, yes. Your patients, never. Your employer's AI policy always overrides anything in here.
Who is this not for?
If you already prompt well and get what you want out of AI, skip it, you'd be paying $9.99 to be told things you know. If you want AI to chart for you or make clinical calls, this is the wrong book and I'd rather you didn't buy it.
Do I have to be good with tech?
No. Chapter 8 starts at "what is ChatGPT and how do I open it." If you can text, you can do this.
